What is L-glutamine?

This is a publication gate, not a reason to improvise a higher dose.

Does L-glutamine help muscle recovery?

There is a promising signal, but it comes from a small and unusually demanding experiment. In a double-blind randomized crossover trial, 16 healthy young adults completed damaging eccentric knee-extension exercise. They received L-glutamine at 0.3 g/kg/day for 72 hours. Participants reported lower soreness and showed faster recovery of some peak-torque measures than with placebo.

Dose is the first reality check. For a 70 kg adult, 0.3 g/kg equals 21 g/day—more than eight times the Biogénique label-directed 2.6 g/day. The trial was also short, involved 16 participants and used a specific exercise model. It suggests that high-dose glutamine can influence recovery markers under those conditions; it does not establish the same effect from four 650 mg capsules.

The larger picture is more restrained. A 2019 systematic review identified 47 athlete studies and included 25 trials in meta-analysis. It found no general association with the main outcomes investigated and concluded that glutamine generally had no effect on athletic immune function, aerobic performance or body composition. Specific subgroup findings do not turn it into a universal muscle-building supplement.

A fair consumer promise is therefore modest: glutamine has plausible relevance after hard physical stress, and individual trials have reported recovery signals, but training progression, adequate energy, protein, carbohydrate, hydration and sleep remain the foundation.

What about gut health?

The intestine uses glutamine, which makes the gut-health story biologically plausible. Human supplementation results, however, depend heavily on the population and dose. A 2024 systematic review and meta-analysis included 10 randomized trials with 352 participants. Overall, glutamine did not significantly change intestinal permeability. A subgroup signal appeared at doses above 30 g/day and for shorter interventions, but the participants had varied health conditions and the evidence was heterogeneous.

That result should not be rewritten as ‘L-glutamine heals leaky gut.’ Intestinal permeability is a research measure, not a home diagnosis, and the subgroup dose was more than eleven times the Biogénique daily direction. What does the Certificate of Analysis prove?

The located certificate matches product name Biogenique L-Glutamine and lot 240616. It records 650 mg L-glutamine per unit dose, capsule weight variation, an 11-minute disintegration result, microbial testing and heavy-metal results. It also states manufacture in June 2024 and expiry in May 2026.

Because that lot is now past its stated expiry, the certificate is historical evidence—not proof of current inventory. It cannot support a current-batch claim, and it cannot justify saying that every batch has the same results. Its non-medicinal-ingredient line also lists only hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, while the archived label lists that ingredient plus titanium dioxide.
